UPDATE 10-27-2012

Got some pics of the Ebbett's Pass run with some friends.  It was a Z type event so it's in the 350Z Events area.

UPDATE 8-9-2012

Finally got some pics of the Jeep up.  Enjoy!

UPDATE 3-17-2012!!

Well, 2 months ago I traded the Z in.  It's been replaced by a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that I ordered directly from the factory to get exactly what I wanted and could afford.  Expect a new section going up in the next couple weeks to track it and off-roading pictures.  The Z was great while I had it, but it was time for something new.  I've always wanted a truck and a 4x4 since I was just out of High School and now I finally own what I consider the best of both of those worlds, the "original SUV".

UPDATE 5-9-2011!!

Welcome to my personal site. Right now the biggest thing here is my PRK blog.  You can also find pics and details on events for my current car and also pics of my Meyer's Parrot. The Archive section holds some "outdated" content from the old version of the site like the 2 Saturn cars I had, and the No Limits Coaster Sim tracks that I created. More content will come once in a while.  The newest update is some cell phone pics of the detail job I did to the car this weekend.  Hoping to get some decent pics with the DSLR in a day or two.

PRK Final Update Print E-mail

Well, I realized I never did a final update on the PRK blog so here it is.  As of my last vision test from 2012, I'm still seeing 20/20.  The little bit of ghosting I had left is pretty much gone unless I'm looking out of one eye in a dark room, and it's only ever been on lights like the LED's on a DVR box.  I think the dark room points to it just being cause by the wide open pupils letting light in from near the edges of the correction.  Dr. Maboudi had mentioned in the past there are drops that will cause the pupil not to dilate quite as much, but since I don't notice it during driving anymore, only when I actively look for it, I'm not concerned.  I still use eye drops an average of 5 times a day (sometimes more sometimes maybe 4 times), but a good part of that is just from the Occular Rosacea that I have which causes a bit of dryness on its own.

So I guess the big question someone might ask is "was it worth it?" or "would you do it again?".  I'd say the answer is yes.  Things didn't necessarily go as smooth as I'd hoped, but I'm glad I did it.  Not needing glasses all the time especially in the rain is really nice.  Just remember, whether you're thinking of PRK or Lasik (or whatever comes next), always do your research and make sure you're comfortable with the facility and staff that you choose to have the procedure with.  If you don't, you only have yourself to blame if they mess up.  If you did, then at least you know it was a random incident and you did your best to make sure you were "doing it right".  You only get one set of eyes, don't cheap out on them :)

Ebbetts Pass 2012 Print E-mail

Here are the pics from the Ebbetts Pass run on 10-20-12.  Yep, I got to ride along as a co-pilot in a friend's 370Z.  The drive was awesome.  Good people, good weather and amazing scenery.  The only real note I have about the pictures is that #9 looks odd for a reason.  It actually came out very dark.  Too dark to be salvageable as a normal photo. Instead of throwing it out, I decided to get creative and play around with it in Adobe Lightroom.  All things considered I think it was a successful experiment in giving it an arty kind of look.

June Trip to Bowman Lake Print E-mail

So, back in mid-June we were forecast to have our first 100+ day of the year.  It was supposed to hit 106!  What to do?  That's right, get out of town up into the mountains where it's cool(er).  We had temps in the low 80's instead and on the way back in the evening it was in the low 70's until we got back into the valley.  Then it was back up to nearly 100.

Where did we go?  Up to Bowman Lake http://goo.gl/maps/sbZOB which is on the way to Tahoe off I-80 in California.  It's a nice little drive, and I'm going back soon to go to a few other lakes and do some good photography (expect pics).  Only have a few pictures from the trip, taken with a smartphone camera, but I think they turned out pretty decent.

Jeep gets polished & sealed Print E-mail

Better late than never, but now that I'm getting the site updated I thought I'd toss up a couple pics of the Jeep after polishing the paint with a light cut polish, sealing the paint, and topping with wax.  This is from the end of May.  You can see the Black Forest Green really does have green in that first pic.  Most of the time it looks black, but especially now that it's summer the sun is bright enough to see it more often.  Besides the usual car wash including Dawn to strip any old paint coatings I used the following process....

  • Clay with Pinnacle XMT Speed Clay
  • Polish with Wolfang Finishing Glaze (really a polish, has no glaze fillers) and white Lake Country flat polishing pad and my DA polisher
  • Seal with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant on a blue finishing pad and the DA
  • The next day after the sealant cured, two coats of Pinnacle Signature Series II carnuba wax.
